#Canon image browser software software
On the Canon website they only have some very basic importing software called Camera Window. I'm looking for something with which to compress my photos though, and Irfanview doesn't seem to have anything included.

I hadn't used my camera for such a long time, what with the convenience of cellphone and iPad cameras, that I haven't got around to looking for a later version for my new computer, but I did download Irfanview. PSCS 5 is a little slower, but better than any other solution I've found.I used to have ZoomBrowser EX and then, I think, ImageBrowser EX on my computer, but I got a new computer some time ago, and upgraded it to Windows 10. Then I just send them over to my PSCS6 on my other computer for PP. I also discovered I can download my SL2 images using the card reader on my older iMac still running PSCS5, and put them in pre-named folders on download. I have a Lexar card reader that has always worked fine with memory cards from all my Canon cameras, and is a lot neater than hooking up a camera to do the download, so I'll muddle along with PSCS6 Bridge download. Canon did not include this cable with the camera. I've spent too many years editing with Photoshop, beginning with Elements, and then using the versions of PSCS, and I still use PSCS6.Īlso, the new Canon EOS software requires a special USB cable to connect the SL2 to the computer, and it costs $45. it doesn't play well with other software like PSCS6 (or later versions of CC ). Your preference for image editing software is my gripe with DPP4. I prefer image editing software which does not offer thumbnail views, however, because thumbnails take up a lot of screen real estate and make the workspace look cluttered. The only downside with that feature, is said cataloguing is available only to DPP4, DPP4 won't "share" the catalogues with other software. DAM seems oriented more to businesses or people who are constantly using that kind of software.įor me, DAM means any software features that help me manage my image files, no matter how large or small the quantity.įor example, Canon's DPP4 has really cool thumbnail views which allow me to rate and categorize all the images on my computer. ca 1000 trip pictures, or maybe only a very few at a time. My problem with DAM is that I seldom download images more than once or maybe twice a year, max.

Then I can transfer the images to the primary computer for PP. However, I find I can do the download on my other iMac and the card behaves as it should. It took me a few tries to get it right, and in the process, when I activate "download" on Bridge, now the card repeats my previous attempts as well as what is originally on the card, which is frustrating. that's pretty much the opinion I've gotten from several different sources. I would be inclined to use your computer's native file management system to transfer images, more than any add-on software.

Microsoft Silverlight seems more bloatware than anything else.Ĭanon's ImageBrowser also seems quite outdated, compared to other DAM software programs, including Canon's own Digital Photography Professional 4, which is pretty handy at DAM.

Just my two cents which probably will not answer your question: Any comments ? Am I missing someway to keep the card "active" without having to sort through a miriad of images to find where I left off ? But I am very frustrated with the fact that when I download in Bridge, after transferring a group of images to folders on my desktop, Bridge restarts the card loading process, and i have to locate where I left off, which is time-consuming and frustratingly slow. I know there are other download programs, and I've been working with PSCS6 Bridge download, which is very similar to the process in Image Browser.

I have read in several places that Silverlight is not a safe download, and not to install it. Now, after updating my 8 year old iMac to El Capitan, when I click on IB, it opens to 80% and I get a message that I must download and verify "Silverlight" before IB can be opened.

I have used Canon Image Browser for several years for quick and easy transfer of images from memory card to relabeled desktop folders on my iMac, and then PP in PSCS6.
